Dr. E. Atiya Hodges, DSW, LCSW (she/her) - Lead Clinician
Specialties: Late Diagnosed ADHD, ADHD Coaching, Type A/Perfectionism.
When I was a kid, I loved the movie “Harriet the Spy” for so many reasons. There was a scene where Harriet was sent to a therapist or psychiatrist I honestly can’t remember. But what I do remember is that the office had games and toys in it and at that moment I decided I wanted to be whatever that job was because I wanted to get paid to play with kids as a job when I grew up. Fast forward to the future and I learned that job was a therapist and I’ve been moving in that direction ever since.
I have been a practicing therapist since 2012 and received my MSW degree from The Florida State University in 2009. Because I am obsessed with learning, I earned my doctorate of social work (DSW) in May of 2023 at The University of Tennessee- Knoxville. When it comes to therapy, I draw from a variety of theoretical approaches depending on what my clients require but the important ones to note are I am person centered, strengths focused, solution focused with a heavy foundation of Womanisim/Black feminism Theory. My areas of focus include ADHD (including diagnosis, assessment as well as development of coping skills and coaching services) and other difficulties tha arise from executive dysfunction, anxiety(especially perfectionism/type A personalities), and regular ole supportive counseling. I love the arts and creative expression and use these seemingly irrelevant talents to allow me to come up with creative interventions that allow clients to get their needs met.
If I’m not being a therapist I’m probably somewhere upside down as I spend a significant portion of my free time practicing aerial arts in some capacity (if you think you saw me on a stage in Nashville, yes, yes you did.) When I’m not on stage, I’m probably playing my switch or watching all the cartoons that folks find offensive for one reason or another.
Tawanda Watkins, MSW, LCSW (she/her):
Specialties: Anxiety, depression, life transitions, personality disorders
Hi, I'm Tawanda. I'm an associate licensed therapist and mental health clinician. I am a Nashville native raised in North Nashville. I enjoy traveling and spending time with friends. I also enjoy arts and crafts, basking in solitude, reading, and watching thriller/suspense shows and movies.
I attended Tennessee State University (Go Big Blue!) for a bachelor's degree in Psychology and received a master’s in Social Work from the illustrious Clark Atlanta University. One of my goals is to make therapy more accessible to Black/African diaspora people. I aim to help people connect with and appreciate their authentic selves.
I work with people who struggle with negative self-image, deep sadness, anxiety, shame, and more. These can show up in everyday life as being avoidant, excessive sleeping, increased irritability, feeling deep regret, etc. Before coming to see me, the people I work with denied themselves happiness or let the pain from past situations control their lives.
Together we will find new ways to heal and be present in life. I use various techniques to help you connect with your mind, body, and spirit.
Gankoya Leaman, LMSW (she/her)
Specialties: Codependency, Boundary Identification and Development, Building Healthy Relationships
Are you a people pleaser? Do you have a pattern of one-sided relationships? Do you find yourself at times “walking on eggshells” just to keep the peace? Do you feel as if it your duty to help everyone get through their problems to the point of sacrificing your own needs? Sometimes, the things we do in our relationships to help others end up causing us to hurt ourselves. That hurt can manifest in different ways including, but not limited to loss of energy and interest in pleasurable activities, frequent mood changes, and lack of focus and concentrating on important day to day tasks.
Humans are social creatures so it is natural that we would be affected by our relationships whether it's with a family member, a romantic partner or a friend. Let’s work together to improve your relationships to where they are mutually satisfying. I work from a person-centered approach, meaning I tailor my treatment approach around your individual needs.
As a wife, Mother, Friend, Sister, Daughter and Coworker, I understand how one can get caught up focusing on everyone except themselves. Therapy can be scary and unfamiliar, knowing this, I strive to provide a safe, empathetic, non-judgmental space for everyone!
Judcia “Jodie” Williams (She/Her) - Office Manager
Transformative Therapy Services would be useless without our administrative support and we are so appreciative of the assistance that our amazing admin provide us. This is the person answering your questions, explaining documents and scheduling your appointments. The office manager is the first point of contact for the practice and we can brag on ours all day long. YES JODIE IS A REAL PERSON. She graduated with a BA from Austin Peay with a double major in English and German. She probably knows more about K-Pop than you and enjoys music, anime and video games when she isn’t working hard to support the practice by doing literally everything administratively required to keep the practice afloat.
Kevana West, r-DMT, LPC (they/them)
Specialties: Expressive arts, Trauma, Spirituality
Our collective struggle is that we have inherited a world of imbalance and as such, imbalance lives within each of us. It is my belief that healing is done in community, and that true change can only occur in the space between individuals. Together, we will work to find equilibrium and healing amongst the madness.
It is my goal to help clients develop and hone the best version of themselves according to their own vision. Through the integration of movement and the expressive arts, I seek to assist clients in rewriting their narratives in a way that embodies dignity and strength.I enjoy working with diverse populations and feel honored to hold space for individuals as they embark on their journey toward healing and wholeness. It is also my pleasure to work with clients and their communities, whether it be family, coworkers, or friends.
My work focuses on coping through creativity and the healing power of art making. I am happily accepting new clients, and would love to help you through this stage of your healing journey.
